Exhaust Part Numbers

1966-1970 Toronado

Walker lists the following from front to rear:

31857 Flange, both sides

31502 Gasket (donut), both sides

41236 Head pipe psgr side

41237 " " driver's

35336 2-1/4" Clamp, head pipe to extension pipe (qty 2, ie 1 each side)

49114 Extension pipe psgr

49115 Extension pipe driver

2 more 35336 Clamps, xtension pipes/muffler

21462 Muffler (I admit, this one surprised me!)

2 35408 2" Clamps, tailpipes to muffler

2 41154s, I'll call them tailpipes

2 more 35408 2" Clamps, tailpipes to resonators

Oops, resonators N/A (not available), but who cares?! Use a piece of straight pipe; less restriction. BTW, I bet, if you _must_ have resonators, you can make some from a '63 - '64 F*rd or M*rc*ry work.

'88 Walker catalog also lists an exhaust system for '68 - '70 Toro with single-outlet muffler; same as earlier system mentioned except uses 21643 muffler and 21635 resonator. This resonator has 2-1/4" inlet, dual exhaust muffler has 2" outlets (ie discontinued dual exhaust resonators had 2" inlets). No information given for hangers on either system.

Note! '67 - '69 Eldorado uses a 21634 muffler which single outlets to driver's side (Toro single above outlets psgr side). Cad muffler is 2"in / 2-1/4" out but might work in a pinch with reducers and (whatever the opposite of reducers is... stepper-uppers?). Cad uses same 21635 resonator as single outlet Toronado. Interesting. BTW, Buick Riv didn't have transverse muffler.

No dimensions available for discontinued dual exhaust resonators, but I see a 21674 resonator for '71 - '73 models which has a 2-1/4" inlet; if it fits, could use it and a reducing nipple. '74 - '76 models use 2 21687 resonators and 42337 tailpipes, resonators are 2-1/4" in/out. 1977 (note, first year of 403 V8, 455 discontinued) uses 2 21978 resonators (2"). Will advise dimensions on all these and transverse mufflers later.

Dimensions and Descriptions:

21462 muffler, fits '66 - '70 Toronado: dual inlet/dual outlet transverse muffler, 2-1/4" in/2" out, 7" x 9" shell diameter, 28-1/2" overall length, 24" shell length, 2-1/4" dual side inlets, 2" dual side outlets.

21643 muffler, fits '68 - '70 Toronado: dual inlet/single outlet transverse muffler, 7" x 9" shell diameter, 27-1/2" overall length, 24" shell length, 2-1/4" ID dual side inlets, 2-1/4" single side outlet (outlets on passenger side).

21635 resonator/tailpipe, fits '68 - '70 Toronado: 4" round shell diameter, 29-1/2" overall length, 18" shell length, 2-1/4" center inlet, 2-1/2" center outlet.

21674 resonator/ tailpipe, fits '71 - '73 Toronado: "special" (?) shell diameter, 34-1/2" overall, 33" shell length, "special" (?) ID center inlet & center outlet (uses 2-1/4" clamp).

21687 resonator, fits '74 - '76 Toronado: 4" round shell diameter, 21" overall length, 16" shell length, 2-1/4" ID center inlet/ 2-1/4" ID center outlet (use 2 42337 tailpipes).

21978 '77 resonator/tailpipe, fits '77 Toronado (403 V8): 4" round shell diameter, 27-1/2" overall length, 16" shell length, 2" ID center inlet/2" ID center outlet.

21634 muffler, fits '67 - '69 Eldorado, 7" x 9" shell diameter, 27-1/2" overall length, 24" shell length, 2" ID dual side inlets, 2-1/4" ID single side outlet (outlets on driver's side).

Camaro - Lotsa single-in / dual-out transverse mufflers on later ones that might be able to be installed bass-ackwards on Toro. Will check these out later.

Earlier Camaro transverse mufflers, both dual in, dual out:

21536 muffler, fits '67 - '69 V8 Camaro, 4-1/4" x 8-13/16" shell diameter, 28" overall length, 24" shell length, "special" (?) dual center inlets and outlets, uses 2-1/4" clamps at inlets, 2" clamps at outlets. Also fits '67 - '69 Chevy II & Nova.

21699 muffler, fits '70 - '74 V8 Camaro including Z28, 4-1/4" x 9- 3/4" shell diameter, 30" overall length, 22" shell length, special" (?) dual center inlets & outlets, uses 2-1/4" clamps at inlets and 2" clamps at outlets.

And one more...

21662 muffler, fits '70 - '74 Nova, 4-1/4" x 8-13/16"shell diameter, 28" overall length, 24" shell length, special (?) dual center inlets and outlets, uses 2-1/4" clamps at inlet, 2" clamps at outlets. Not sure what the difference is between this one and 21536 above, dimensions appear identical.

I have no idea what they mean by "special" when referring to some of the inlet/outlet sizes above. I think it means "bastard". :)

Looks like some of these might work, but not sure about the center and side inlet/outlet business with reference to what they call the "dual-head" mufflers. I understand it in a regular single inlet/single outlet muffler; it's whether the inlet and outlet are at the center or the side of the case.

Enjoy!
