Hi guys
I have a small Problem with my Toro
yersterday I didn´t know that the engine works (becouse of phone !!! and noise ) and I turn on the key - hotstart
after that I cann´t start the engine again, I tryed oly one time .., now I have only a very bad niose from the starter and every cable from the battery are during the start hot.
do you know this "Problem" ?
and how do you think ... what ist wrong.... complittely starter or only magneting coupling?

The starter solenoid is sticking. (most likely) You can probably fix it yourself byt taking it apart, cleaning the little disc thing inside, and reinstalling it. The same thing happened to mine a few years ago. I'll look for the photos of the procedure.

Hit the side of the starter with a crowbar or hammer and I'll bet the car will start. It might work for a while and then you'll have to hit it again. Eventually you'll need to fix the solenoid or replace it.

Here are some bad pictures of my solenoid. I took it apart, cleaned everything, wire brushed the little contact disc and put it in upside down so the clean side could get some use.

The other possibility is that the starter gear is hung up on the flywheel (broken teeth or something) but if it didn't make a starter type noise first, the gear probably never contacted the flywheel. My money is on the starter solenoid.

Well a replacement bendix should take care of it, probably a universal part. I
wonder what country made that one?

The flexplate for the 66-67 Toro had a very bad reputation with gear teeth
wear. Better check out yours. After that they made a special one for Toro
with longer teeth to handle the stress. I managed to find enough of them
for all my cars. Unfortunately it won't interchange with the 425 flex plate.

I've had bad experiences with Airtex fuel pumps before but don't know anything about the quality of their starter parts. The other brand, Standard, is generally good quality in my experience. But as Bruce said, who knows where this stuff is made anymore?

Where do you normally buy parts for your car in Europe?
