fender emblem removal
I need to remove the toronado and front wheel drive emblems so i can sand my fenders, does anyone know if i can remove them without taking the fenders off?

The little things that say Toronado?
Held on by little pins and screws on the inside.

I don't think you'll be able to remove the scripts without removing the fender.
Here are a couple of links that may help.
1966 Fisher Body Service Manual (see section 12, Exterior Moldings)
http://www.oldcarmanualproject.com/manu ... index.html
1966 Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual (see section 11, Sheet Metal)
http://oldcarmanualproject.com/manuals/ ... index.html
These are not Toronado specific, but GM in general. Still, it may give you some insight into how they are attached and how best to remove them.
Hope that helps

Re: fender emblem removal
You cannot remove them "properly" without removing the fender. However, you can carefully pry them off. The studs and associated nuts will break off and stay behind the finder. You can then grind it flat and epoxy new studs to the emblems and re-install them. I used nails with flat thin heads and a diameter that just slides into the holes, grind and trim them appropriately. You can then use a thin coating of epoxy on the nail studs to hold them in place.

I was afraid that I would have to remove the fenders, didn't want to but I guess I will anyway because it sound like the best option.
