Quadrajet trouble

I'm rebuilding my Q-jet. It's not original to my toronado, but it is from a '66 olds 425. I'll get a new one from Sparky when I get my engine rebuilt. For now, I'm just getting it running.

Anywho, the issue I'm having is that my Dashpot piston & rod assembly were stuck. I believe this is why my car had no power, as the secondary throttle plates couldn't open witht he pot jammed in there.

In order to take the top of the carb off, I kinda had to pry at it and it disconnected the rod from the pot. After a little heat, and alot of patience, I managed to get the pot out of the main body. There's no rust... it was just... stuck.

I'm a little concerned about re-assembly of the unit. When I put the rod in, it only stays attatched if it's held at an angle. I suspect I could repair it by either squishing/bending the end of the rod. Or just using a nail and reproducing the rod, using the head to keep the pot on. But, I suspect that it's designed to come apart, or they would have made it so it would not....

I'm not even quite sure what this thing does!

Oooooohhh... I may have found the answer... According to here:

There is a rubber gasket at the end of the rod. No doubt I melted that off. Hopefully my rebuild kit came with a new one. Otherwise I should be able to get a tiny o-ring, or just a small piece of rubber and punch a hole in it to make a new one.

Would that be correct?
