Transmission rebuild

Postby torogt » Fri Aug 23, 2013 5:18 am

Getting ready to rebuild my transmission I know I have to go with a 1800 stall converter for my camshaft, but how much of a shift kit will the TH425 take with out putting to much stress on the CV axles etc?

"How much of a shift kit"???

There aren't many choices for shift kits. The ONLY company making shift kits for the 425 that I know of is Transgo, and I'm thinking they have two choices. One is for essentially stock applications, for sale primarily to transmission shops (P/N SK425), and the other is for heavy-duty or severe use, available through speed-shops like Summit (P/N 425-1).

Any firming of the shift is going to make for more stress on the axle shafts. Fortunately, they're generously over-built. Tire sizes are limited due to the hatefully narrow wheels. First Guess: You'll blow the tires away before you endanger the drive axles.

1800 stall speed? What is stock? About 1800 or even a bit more would be my guess, but my Toro is a switch-pitch, I don't know about the ordinary torque converters used.

To my understanding the stock stall is low around the 1350 to 1400 range?
