Vin Decoding and Production

Toronado VIN and Production Numbers---Generation 1

Toronado VIN Decoding is very straight forward The 1966-67 VIN location is on the drivers side door jam between the hinges on the body.

The 1968-70 VIN location is on the driver's side where the dash meets the glass and viewed from the out side.

With the exception of the second / third numbers and production sequence the Vehicle Identification Number or VIN description remains constant through out the first generation 66-70.

3 - Oldsmobile, 94/96 - Model, 87 - Hard Top / Coupe, 6 - Year-66 , M - Lansing final assembly plant, 5 - arbitrary number (66 only, 67-70 a 6 used) the last five digits represent production sequence.

Unlike the 66-67 the 68 VIN no longer represented a designation of model which was now referred to as (Base / Custom which continued) through the 70 model year.

Following the lead taken in 68 the 69 the VIN again no longer represented a designation of model.
