newbie needs 79 mounts

Postby impala67 » Mon Mar 02, 2020 9:13 am

Hi all, thanks for approving to site.
I am restoring a almost gone 1979 toronado, originally a diesel car.
Engine is long gone, and so are all its mounts.
I have a 1972 cutlass 350cid that i am installing but i am desperately looking for engine mounts for olds engine.
Does anybody know where i could get all the engine mounting brackets?

Thanks!

Rock Auto has them.

The motor mounts for the '79 Toro diesel and gas V8 are exactly the same. If the '72 Olds 350 block is the same as the '79 Olds 350 block, you should have no problems.

That is a good car to restore, no computers to deal with. Rock will sell you
the rubber mounts, but you also need the brackets that mount to them, and
to the front and sides of the engine. I wonder if you have those parts for
the transmission in back? Any 79-81 Toro, Riv, or 79 Eldo with a V8 will have
all those parts. Eldo changed engines in 1980, and the transmission and its
frame brackets changed in 1982.

The engine will need an E car ring gear to match the special starter. The
exhaust and oil components are all special for an E car. Final drive ratios
from 2.2:1 to 3.1:1 were used over 79 to 85. good luck, Bruce Roe

Today I see, I have 2 sets of those 79-81 Toro SBO front engine mounts on
my shelf (3rd in my car). It would not be hard to get one set away from me.
The rubber cushion at the bottom is still required. No rear trans mounts I think.

Ok I decided to check, the same source lists transmission mounts, they give the
same part numbers for 79 and 85. They are not in fact the same, the picture looks
like the 82-85 version. This does not inspire confidence that the fronts are right.

Oh well, after I found the needed front bracket here, the poster has disappeared
into cyber space. Bruce Roe

I guess he decided to put all his effort into the '67 Impala.

I posted on March 12 that I had spare 79 Toro engine brackets, read above.
I also ordered new rubber engine mounts. But I wonder if you have the
transmission mount in place? Bruce Roe
