That’s a nice looking car Francois. If you are interested in recovering the seats to match the doors I may have a solution.

I had a guy redo my seats, front and back, for my 66. They came out beautiful. But they were the wrong color for my car. My door panels and headliner are turquoise and he did the seats in a very dark green. It looks like what was your original color.

I have ordered the turquoise materials from sms and having them redone. I’m sure I could get you a good deal on the green covers. I’ll post pictures later today.

Thanks Otto, I'm trying to have the engine perfectly done before everything else, I'm always surprise how big this engine is :)
Hi Tuco,
Sure, why not, if you have pictures, that could be great. I don't know if mine look like dark green because of the sun or if everything had been changed but if it could match the color, I'm in :) I also asked samples from SMS but they looked a lot clearer than what I have.

Here are pics of the seats. And one of the contrast to my original.

Francois,

Check with inline tube for your throttle cable. They sell one for a Cutlass but they can make one for you if you have the old one to use as a pattern.

Hi everybody !
First thank you for the replies, I should post here more often but I'm always busy :)
Tuco, I sent you a private message, I don't know if you got it.
Otto, I will see if I can fix mine, may not be in a so bad shape after all.
So the story continues, I'm still waiting for the carburetor so I'm working on the engine to have it perfect !
Everything I did so far :
- New exhaust line
- Restore the rear lights
- Restore the distributor
- Remove the intake manifold
- Remove one cylinder head
- Restore the headlight canister
... many more :)
Regarding the headlight canister, I know this is a frequent problem for our 66 - 67 Toronado, so I figured I could spend more time on this.
Most of the time, the problem comes from all those vacuum lines that are too old, and changing them just fix it right away. In my case, it did not. I then opened both canisters to find that one of them has the conical spring nearly rusted out and both had old rubber seals. Thanks to John (aka toroguy) I have a new spring on the way, but rubbers are incredibly difficult to find, so I printed a new support that I could fix on the shaft and apply "easy to find" O rings on it. After a few tests, it seems to work great ! We will see on the car of course...
One quick question, I need to find new bolts for my cylinder heads, I found the Edelbrock 8558 kit or the ARP 180-3600, anything you would recommend ? I have stock head cylinder.
Thanks, here are the pics.
François.

Wow. You're doing a lot more than I ever did to mine. Mine spent most of its life in the hands of several collectors so it never got worn out or abused. Aside form tunes ups, shocks, water pump, etc. I've never had to get that far into it.

I don't think mine was abused, it was just really barely used, only have 23000 miles that were done in 4 years and then nothing... so rubbers, gaskets, a lot of things have to be replaced because of this. I'm still waiting for the carburetor so I have time to check completely the engine.
I'm just becoming impatient to go on the road again :)
I have now original valve covers received from Toroguy, cleaned and painted ! Starting to rebuild the second headlight canister with the 3D printed part, so it's improving !
I'll post more soon.
Have a great evening !

VERY NICE CAR. Keep it safe, worry first about the tires and brakes. Tires, because
they may be way too old to be safe. Brakes, the car has only a single hydraulic
circuit, any bad hose, line or cylinder, and you have no brakes (CRASH). Plan to
replace ALL the lines, hoses, and brake cylinders, not so hard to do using the new
copper nickel alloy. A better plan is convert to a far safer (fault tolerant) dual
circuit brake system.

The exhaust usually falls off my new old cars the first day, as you found. I
replace that with stainless steel, and put in a super duty radiator.

Do not change the head gaskets. Instead make sure the timing chain set
has been changed out, originals fail when the plastic falls off the cam sprocket.
Check that the harmonic balancer s not falling apart and throwing off the timing
mark.

If the trans has never been out, it needs a refresh from the inside out, before
ancient rubber piston seals can fail and destroy a good trans. good luck,
Bruce Roe
