MY NEW (old) OLDS!!

Postby Black76Toro » Thu Apr 11, 2019 8:02 pm

Two weeks ago I picked up a 76 Toronado!!! I have been looking for about a year for an Oldsmobile from 1966- 1975 (I had one in HS- a 72 Cutlass S) and wanted to stick to a Cutlass or a 1st or 2nd year Toronado; however, I stumbled across an excellent deal that I just could not pass up. The car is in great shape and has 68K miles on it. I will slowly be doing some work on it very soon!

The person who sold me the car had some original documentation for it as well. The car was built in Lansing, MI and the person who purchased it was Ms. Belle Lee from Hazel Park, MI. The car was purchased from Drummy Oldsmobile in East Detroit.

This is my first post... Thank you for the add! I will be posting other questions soon (I have a lot I do not know)!

-Roger

Congrats on your purchase Roger. She’s a beauty!

Looks to be in good condition. What all do you need to do?

Thank you! Belle is in great condition there are a few things that don't work...cruse control, radio, A/C, a very small crack in the vinyl on the door, needs new paint and landau top. I'm working on a transition and an oil leak right now and that is really the main issue... all that other stuff will come in time... I have three young kids and a wife (she finally agreed to let me get a car!) so I call it a 10 year project... lol! Everything else is in excellent shape.... of course down the road I want to increase the compression on the 455 and hear the tires chirp a bit too!

The person that had the car before me was getting older and had knee surgery and his wife did not drive the car. Once he had the surgery he could not get into it anymore, he had two other kids in college but they did not want it so he was just looking for it to go to a good home. I want to raise my son on this car and teach him what my dad taught me on my 72 yellow cutlass s (he had a 70 green cutlass back in the day)... lessons that will stay with you forever! I would say that the previous owner 'blessed' be with the car, a very nice guy who I will keep in touch with!

That's cool. I really like that body style of Toro. They took a lot of styling cues from the first gen, FWD Eldorado. How many miles are on it?

68K original.

The lines are very nice... again while not specifically looking for this particular model i'm finding that I love it more each day.

Congratulations on your car. Looks nice. You mentioned that you had a yellow, '72 Cutlass S in HS. I also have a yellow, '72 Cutlass S, 442 in my garage along with my '66 Toronado.

Yellow is my favorite color. I had a yellow '68 Camaro that I traded for a yellow '72 Monte Carlo. I sold the Monte Carlo to buy the Cadillac.

So beautiful! Sunfire Yellow is my favorite color for a car with one color with Flame Orange coming in a very close second. My Cutlass S had the white vinyl interior.

My teacher in HS had a 72 Cutlass Supreme Flame Orange with a white vinyl hard top, white vinyl interior with white accent pin striping and the chrome spoke wheels... I think this is my favorite combo ever (yellow with white top does not work, unless your a convertible). The third best combo is green with white top and white interior.

Sweet picts of both cars!

The bumpers were originally chrome, right?
