Good evening everyone, I'm Mike. I just recently bought the car ive sought since I was 16: the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado. She's a little rough, but I can't complain. I was looking for some general info on some smaller details since I don't have an owners manual. First: the S in the shifter, what does that mean? Thanks for any information

S stands for Sport. Just a gimmicky way of saying 2nd Gear.

Drive the car like a normally labeled Turbo 400. Shift into S whenever you would normally want 2 like coming down a mountain or whatever.

Look on Ebay for an Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual. They're about $20-$30. Do Not get one on computer disc because it is useless if you actually want to view the manual while working on the car.

Here's an Owner's Manual with zero bids for $9.00. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1966-Oldsmobil ... Swb39bCfoP

Nicer ones have BIN prices for $30 to $45.

Thank you for the reply, I suppose both of my guesses were kinda right then. "S for either Sport or Second" was my assumption, but that left me confused by the number 1 for First. I'm most definitely going to get a chassis service manual and a fisher body service manual to pair with it for the interior work ahead. My "Grand Design" is to bring a little modern tech into the fold while maintaining original appearance, but making it unique (not at all difficult, I'm the only person in my town with a Toronado) by transforming it into a deceptively fast behemoth. Any suggestions, upgrade recommendations, ideas, warnings, are also very much appreciated

You don't have to do anything to the drive train to make it a deceptively fast behemoth. These cars flat out haul ass in stock form. Factory rating is 385 hp.

Get your Q-Jet rebuilt properly, replace your timing chain and sprocket set with a modern, non nylon coated one, and you'll smoke the front tires off the car at traffic lights.

Post some pictures of your car. Where do you live. Also, anyone with a 1966 Toronado is going to be the only one in town no matter where you live!
