Still working on transmission leak, seems to be transmission gasket, even though I replaced it a year ago. I used a rubber/cork type last time, what's the best? Cork, all rubber, or cork/rubber combo? Any other ideas help full. Any
body hear of a silicone rubber type gasket? Bob

There's a plenty of potential leak points, and most of them will drizzle down to the pan gasket which then makes it look like the pan gasket is leaking.

If your pan gasket is recent, and you're confident in the installation--start looking at the:

1. Modulator O-ring seal
2. Shift-shaft (manual shaft) seal
3. Torque-converter (oil pump) seal
4. Speedometer seals (2) Housing seal, driven gear seal
5. Dipstick tube seal (o-ring), cracked dipstick tube at the o-ring groove, and broken dipstick tube support bracket (Broken bracket was the cause of the leak on my trans.)
6. O-ring at the plastic electrical connector pressed into the trans case
7. Governor cover seal
8. Rear "pan" gasket around drive chain
9. Check for fluid traces from the trans vent

I know this is an old post but running into a similar issue. I just got my '67 Toro up and running after sitting for 25 years. I've been driving it for a couple hundred mile so far and now I'm getting a transmission leak. Looks like it's mostly dripping off the little air deflector that's under there. I haven't had a chance to get it up in the air yet to really dig into it, but is there a gasket in that general area that is a likely culprit?

I'm not sure what you mean by deflector. Are you talking about the plastic splash guards or some part of the transmission?

The killer leak is the chain cover, a poor design. Unfortunately it is near impossible
to change this without removing the trans. Not much chance of success with the
cork gasket, could try gluing it to the cover. The GMC owners and some of us have
had good success throwing away the cork and gluing the cover on. VALCO used

So use the glue/liquid gasket, how hard is it to remove the cover to get that glue on? Do you have to drop part of the transmission or can you remove the cover from just getting underneath the car?

It's kind of in the center of the first photo, off to the right in the second photo.

It is generally done with the trans tipped forward, so the chain cover is
on top. Use plenty of glue, some inside will do no damage. Easy if the
trans is getting the needed refresh (maybe not a full rebuild) at this age.

I doubt it can be done in the car, certainly not mine, check yours. Bruce Roe
