So probably a silly question but not all that fimiliar with these transmissions. I have been chasing a trans oil leak for some time now. I am confident now that it is not coming from the transmission pan, or the vacume modulator. After inspecting again today I am leaning toward the "pan" that is on the rear of the trans, (It has a black plastic type insulated cover on it) My question is.. 1. what is in there? (is that where the chain drive is??? and 2. is there transmission fluid in there that could be leaking from that gasket between the two parts. thanks

Is the leak trans fluid or oil? There are seals back there for both the transmission and the engine.

I had / have the same problem Please provide your phone number so we can talk at length and not duplicate the same mistakes in fixing this repair. I'm in Wisconsin, how about you?

Robert I just sent you a PM with my number. After further inspection I think I am dealing with a leaky trans torque converter front seal. I have the seal just need to find time to pull the motor. I recently rebuild the motor and reground the crank which may have moved the "track" the seal had been running on. At least thats my theory anyway.
