Yes, the switch is external, actuated by a cable. Mine didn't work when I bought the car. I cleaned it out, readjusted the cable and it worked! I bet that would do the trick in 90% of the cases.

OK, I've opened a can of worms. I found the turn signal actuator and in a rookie move, decided to open the actuator to clean it, well when I did that all the pieces fell apart. Yikes! There were four small metal balls, three brass triangle shaped pieces, and three springs. After several attempts to put the pieces back together as I thought they would join, I now have no functioning turn signals. I previous had a work left hand turn signal. I'm assuming that I put the pieces back incorrectly. Does anyone have a schematic of how this actuator is put together? This is the actuator that is at the base of the steering column with the tilt option, not the open inside the steering column, but screwed to the outside of the column.
