Looking for opinions/experiences with Shocks

Hi everyone,

I am looking for insights on shocks for a 1966 Toronado. I have a number of friends with classic cars and they are not favorable on gas charged shocks. Their feeling is they are too firm and not in keeping with most large cars of the 60's.

Since the 66 Toronado's ride is already FIRM I do not want to add to that situation.

I contacted SHOCKS2SPRINGS and they have Heavy Duty and Extra Heavy Duty hydraulic shocks for the 66's.

My questions are:

- has anyone had experiences (good or bad) with SHOCKS2SPRINGS
- experience/opinions on gas charged shocks on a 66
- experience/opinions on heavy duty vs extra heavy duty on a 66

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and insights!

Mike

I went ahead and ordered a set of hydraulic HD shocks from A-1 Shock Absorber Co. (www.shocks2springs.com) along with the rear leaf springs. In talking to Mark at A-1 it sounds like these will be the closest to the original factory shocks. Hopefully they will do a nice job and prevent any additional harshness to the firm ride of the 66. I'll keep my fingers crossed anyway.

I think you will do fine with them. We have other members that were pleased with their products.

I put KYB gas charged on the front and Gabriel in the back for verticals, both gas charged. I am very pleased with the ride so far, but I like a firm ride and dislike any 'boatiness' that was typical among vintage large American cars. That said, I understand the '66 to be the firmest ride of the Gen 1 series and my car is a '69.

Let us know what you think about the shocks you bought.
