Speedometer Cable: Any way to extend it just an inch or two?

Well, I pulled the instrument cluster from my '66 Toro the other day, and I had a heck of a time getting it out, because the speedo-cable only allowed me to pull it out an inch or so to disconnect stuff. I had to use a screwdriver and nudge the connector for like, 5 minutes to get the cable disconnected so I could unhook everything else. I can't imagine how I'm going to hook it back up.
Has anyone ever seen something that will add just an inch or two to the end?

The Speedo cables are almost certainly the same for all GM cars of that era so you should be able to locate a longer cable pretty easily however the trick is to identify what car might have a longer cable. Since the speedo interface is in a very different place in the RWD cars you may be able to find one for a 98 or other large RWD GM car.

Can't disconnect it from the trans and pull it thru the firewall a bit?

In fact BlueCab has an excellent suggestion. I am working with both my Toros right now and it is trivially easy to get to the speedo connection. The only problem may be any sealant on the firewall but that can be dealt with.

Oh lord... I went out and took a look at it today, and I just figured out what you were getting at... Disconnect it from the tranny, push into cabin few inches, hook to speedo, then after the cluster is back in, re-hook it to transmission...
I'm ashamed I even created this thread, lol. Thanks.
