Hi Janice,

Headlight doors and lights are not related since the doors are operated by vacuum.

Normally the problem is that the lights come on but won't open.

My suspicion is that your dimmer switch is faulty or that it is wired incorrectly.

The switch has 3 terminals: Low beam, Power, High beam

The dimmer switch toggles between high beam and low beam while remaining energized at the Power terminal from the dashboard switch.

I think that the High Beam terminal and the Power terminal on the dimmer switch have been mixed up / transposed. When you turn on the lights, the high beams are receiving power directly from the light switch rather than the dimmer switch. When you push the dimmer switch, it shuts off the lights completely because the low beam is expecting to receive electricity from the dimmer switch power terminal but it can't because the Low Beam terminal is now connected to the High Beam terminal instead of the Power Terminal.
