1966 Toronado tires. Perfect!!

Postby classicarsva » Thu Apr 08, 2021 1:16 pm

I saw in the latest email from Jane that someone is looking for tires. I purchased a new set of radial tires from Diamond Back Tires (4 for $1,100). They make a “Toronado” tire matching the original factory narrow W/W using BF Goodrich radials 255 x 70 R15, the widest which will fit in wheel wells without steering issues. They look and drive great!

I checked out that site before, it's too expensive. I'd rather recommend 4WheelOnline. All of their tires are high-quality and very affordable.

The Diamondbacks look really nice on that car.

I have some beautiful Diamondbacks on my '56 Cadillac. They are Yokohama truck tires with a wide wall. They're the best handling tires I've ever had on that car and look very close to the original bias ply tires.

They're also about $1100 for a set of 4.

For other cars I own like the Toronado and '64 Galaxie, I decided a standard whitewall looks fine to me at a third of the price.

Hancook Optimo on the Galaxie and Firestones on the Toro.
