Power Windows and Antenna Stopped Working

Hey guys, my power windows and antenna stopped working altogether and am not sure why. I replaced the fuse twice because the original blew, but they also blew when I tried to roll down the windows. I think it’s a short circuit, but I am trying to find the circuit breaker to see if that’s the problem. Any ideas on where the circuit breaker is located? Thanks.

Circuit breaker? Like in a house?

The fuse is the circuit breaker. You're going to have to check the connections and contacts at all 4 windows and trace the wiring too look for cracks in the insulation, worn through ares, etc.

Does the fuse blow as soon as the window switch is activated? Do all the switches cause a blown fuse or just the master switch?

Whenever I try to roll up the power antenna or roll down any of the windows, the fuse just blows immediately, so that’s why I thought it was more than a simple wiring issue on one side.

I mentioned a circuit breaker because there’s apparently one for GM vehicles for power accessories. I’ll send a screenshot of what I mean.

Here’s the power accessory relay/circuit breaker.

Funny. I've never heard it referred to as a circuit breaker. Just know it as a relay. Circuit breakers make me think of those switches in the electric panel in a house.

Does the fuse blow regardless of which of the 7 window switches you use?

If so, then perhaps that relay, being a common point to all, is the problem. If the fuse only blows when you use the driver's window switch, then probably not.

I haven't looked in the manual to find out, but all the windows and the antenna run through that relay?

I don't have power windows on my DeLuxe. Whover ordered it new deleted the a/c and the power windows.

I checked online and the power windows and antenna connect to the relay. I tried different switches every time I installed a new fuse and they keep blowing them, so that’s why I think it’s the relay. I just need to find it to see if it’s damaged, but I don’t have the wiring diagram for it.

That’s funny, because my Toronado has the power accessories and air conditioning and it’s the base model.

Ha! Back then they let you option up a stripped down car or delete options on a high dollar model. You could go to a dealership and order any car you wanted with whatever things you wanted and didn't want. Buyers could essentially build their own customized car.

If there was something the factory didn't offer, the dealers were more than happy to install it for you before you took delivery of the vehicle.

Not anymore. You get a choice of about 5 boring shades of grey plus black and white. You get whatever options come in a package or none of them. No more picking and choosing.

That relay sounds like a good place to start. If it was under the hood it should be pretty easy to spot. It'll either be on one of the fenders, like the headlight relay (which looks similar), or on the firewall.

Since you haven't found it, It's probably under the dash. The wiring diagram in the FSM doesn't label the exact locations of items in the circuit. I'd suspect that its near the fuse panel but I'm just guessing.

Okay, so I checked the car today and the fuses are on the passenger side of the engine bay. I’m not sure exactly what I did, but I just unscrewed and screwed back the connections and replaced the fuse once again and the windows and antenna started working. To make sure, I plugged and unplugged the battery a few times, moved the power switches while the car was on the “on” position-as well as when it was running-and did it several times to all windows on the main and independent switches. Seems like the problem has been solved, but just confused on how I fixed it.

Update: Just drove it to the store and the windows stopped working again. My luck keeps getting worse.
