I believe so. I'm not exactly sure how to check if it was built to the manufacturer's specifications, but I can tell that he did replace some parts with ones that seem more fitting with the car (ex: carburetor fuel filter was too big originally and used to bend and touch the thermostat housing so he replaced it with a smaller one). Since then, it's been running smooth and now gives me the power when I need it, so I'm assuming that he did do it (unless it's because the carburetor is working properly for the first time haha).

Yes, there would be no way top tell by looking at it. You just have to trust that the rebuilder installed the metering jets specified for that car.

What about the over heating issue you were experiencing? Have you had any more issues?

So far, I have not experienced any overheating issues, so it was most likely the carburetor. However, white smoke is now coming out of the exhaust when I start it and (on a few occasions) when I do a somewhat hard acceleration. I also bought a clear fuel filter so it can pick up any dirt that is trying to enter the carburetor and primary fuel filter. I noticed that a lot of dark particles are trying to enter it (most likely rusted metal particles from the tank), so it might be a sign that the tank needs to be replaced or cleaned.

Yes, there are products you can buy to line the tank yourself. I did that with a 1964 Galaxie back in the 90s and its worked out perfectly. I did the same thing with my '56 Cadillac about 15 years or so ago and it too is working out well. I think it was Eastwood fuel tank sloshing compound or something.

There is also a company that will clean out your tank and reline it. I think its called Renu or Gas Tank Renu, something like that.

The 1st Gen Toro tanks are not reproduced so take care of the one you have.

Is the stuff coming out the exhaust steam or smoke? Steam is usually white, smoke is usually bluish tint. Steam will disappear rapidly but smoke will linger and smell like burning oil. Can you tell which it is?

My guess would be that you have some oil leaking past the piston rings when the car is parked causing the smoke at startup. It could also be oil leaking past valve stems or dried up valve seals.

I checked again and it seems like white/blue smoke is coming out of the exhaust, but I think I know why. I checked the primaries and now they are completely closed when I start the car. I open it manually and the car starts to idle a bit better (I think that’s why the previous owner used silicone to leave them open). Probably need to go back to the guy who rebuilt it and ask him to adjust it.

This is off-topic, but all the headlights suddenly stopped working. I replaced the originals with new ones (it’s only been about a month), replaced the voltage regulator, and replaced almost every fuse in the fuse box. The headlights aren’t burnt, so I’m not sure where the problem lies. This happened after I jacked up the car to replace the front shock absorbers. My only guess is the headlight switch, but the taillights turn on when I pull the knob.

I forgot to mention that when I manually open the primaries, the smoke immediately goes away.

As far as the headlights go I would check the dimmer switch. The power supply goes from the headlight switch to the dimmer switch. There should be three wires in the plug. Unplug the connector from the dimmer switch and see if you have power to one of them when the light switch is on.

The smoke sounds like a rich mixture then. When cold (in the morning before the car is started) the choke should be cracked open about 1/8".
