1966 Seats

Postby gearhead141 » Tue Dec 11, 2018 12:06 pm

I don't own a Toronado but have always been interested in them. I live in SoCal and found a 1966 on CL nearby. I am confused by the seats that are in this car. They don't look like any I have seen searching around on the web. So I'm asking the collective wisdom of the board if any of you may know what these came out of? The headrests don't appear to be the proper shape. The photo showing the rear seat and the driver seat depicts a panel pattern that isn't found on this year of Toronado. I would look closer at purchasing this car but the timing is not good. The asking price is $6500.

You are correct about those not being 1966 Toro seats. I wish I could tell you exactly what they are from but I can't. They are definitely GM seats probably no newer than 1970 based on the head rests chrome piping on the seat backs.

The head rests are 1970 style.

Since the front and rear seats don't match, I'd be willing to bet that the rear seat is a reupholstered '66 frame because it has the radio speaker and the basic pattern is similar to the stock '66 deluxe seat. The front seats were likely pulled from another GM car - possibly a '70 Toronado.

How are the mechanical components? Does everything else seem to work?

Here are a bunch of photos of various Toronado interiors.

Here are some more. I'm more convinced that the front seats are from a 1970 Toronado.

I finally figured it out, but Otto pointed me in the right direction. They are most definitely GM seats, and from the year 1970. You all know what other GM front wheel drive luxury cars were being produced at that time, and it is definitely one of them. A Google search showed that the front seats from a 1970 Cadillac Eldorado are a perfect match. As far as the back seat is concerned, I agree that it is probably an original frame that has just been reupholstered.

Thank you for your help. this is definitely a curious example, and probably has a good story behind it.

Oh ya, perfect match. Tell the seller to knock $1000 off the price!
