1980 distributor HEI module

Hi All,
Im desperately trying to find information on the HEI modules from an 80 Toronado distributor...
I'm using it for junkyard timing control to boost an engine.
I understand that the various models of HEI unit do different things.
The model I have, is a 5 pin, 4 large pins and 1 small. LX330T is the part number I think.
I was hoping that this model reduces ignition timing advance when starting, to make the Toronado start easier.
But it doesn't seem to do anything at all... I've got it with coil feed + and - going in one side (pins B+C), and distributor pickup signal coming out the other.
I was expecting it to run just with normal timing like this, and then delay the timing when the small pin is grounded.
Also I was told that there are 3+ models of the HEI module, and some are for use with a knock sensor, and some are just activated when starting.
Any information on this would be amazing, and if anyone has one for sale I would definitely take it!
Can anyone tell me if the 1980 distributor has vacuum or not?
I have found re-manufactured distributors from Cardone, but they can't tell me if it's the correct one.
Thanks in advance!
