Wow! you got a lot of information in one post.

Perfect color for your car - the best available for '66 Toros. (But I'm biased)

Personally, I like the look of argent painted rims with dog dish caps better than the chromed rims. Judge for yourself.

I've never had to pull my axles so I can't be of help to you in that regard. I'm sure Bruce Roe will see this post and give you an answer soon. He seems to have done everything there is to do on every generation Toronado there is.

That's the same part and part number that Is listed on Rock Auto's site. The other brand they sell is Heri part #70976

$64 and $69 respectively.

I used two 5/16" steel plates to hold the bearing retainer in a press and I was able to press the inner hub out of the bearings.

You might be able to bring the paint back by having it professionally buffed or even wet sanded.

Too bad about the paint.

I also use my Toronado as a daily driver. It splits the duty with a 1956 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. I've never owned a new car - new being one built after 1972.

I intend to drive the Toronado to San Antonio, Texas in June. I live in Atlanta. It's nowhere near as comfortable as the Cadillac but it's the Toro's turn to go on a long trip.

That Dodge is cool. The car I had before the Cadillac was a 1972 Monte Carlo. It was mechanically perfect but needed a new interior, bumpers rechromed and the paint was so/so. Since I used it as a regular car I didn't want it tied up for a long time while all the work was done on it.

I decided to sell it and find a car I could use as-is. That's when I bought the Cadillac. I'd been shopping for a muscle car but the Cadillac popped into view at the same time I received a letter from the state telling me I had 11 points on my driving record and my license would be suspended if I reached 15.

I figured the Cadillac was better choice than a Charger RT or something if I wanted to continue driving.

I really miss the Monte Carlo, though. That was an awesome car. I intend to buy another one some day.

I also own a 1979 Ford F-100. I use it whenever I have to haul something for work or whatever. I'll take trucks up to '79 because they were exempt from pollution regs until 1980 so they're really 60's generation vehicles.

Trust me, they look great in photos but they aren't perfect. The Cad and the truck are showing 16 years and 12 years of regular use in Atlanta traffic. They have some scratches and blemeshes but they're still better than average for 60 and 40 year old vehicles.

Actually, the Toronado is just as good in person as it is in the photos. It spent most of its life owned by private collectors so that's what kept it nice. One of the Moderators on this forum saw the photo and determined that it was his car that he sold in 2002. I bought it in 2014 (the photo above was taken 2 months after I bought it - that's me at the trunk).

In that 12 year period the car acquired less than 20,000 miles. It currently has 145,000 on it - 8000 from me. It had been in at least 3 collections in that time.

I bought it from a friend of mine who acquired it with a lot of 5 cars. He wanted two of the cars but had to buy all five to get them. One of the cars was a 45,000 mile '63 Rivieria in almost the same color as the Toro. It was beautiful.

He decided to sell the Toro because it doesn't have a/c. It's a Deluxe but the buyer deleted the a/c and the electric windows. I just happened to notice it in his shop and commented on the awesome color. He tossed me the keys and told me to take it for a ride. I didn't another car since I was moving and had no garage, etc.

Anyway, it drove so well I would hvae been kicking myself for the rest of my life if I had turned it down. $10K is what he gave it to me for. He was going to take it to the Mecum auction in Kissimmee, FL if I didn't buy it. He probably could have gotten $15-$20k for it.

Front Hub Bearing Removal

When I bought a Toronado, I went out and got a 3/4 inch drive set to deal with
it. Breaking the half shaft nut loose at the center of the wheel can be tough, I
have been seen jumping on a 6 foot extension. Now I put the socket on it
with the handle on the ground and drive the car a couple feet in the direction
to loosen it.

Working on bearings usually means having a press. My 79 bearings are different
from the 66s. Bruce Roe

Does the left side (driver) have left hand threads?

My 79s are all right hand threads. I think yours are too, but don't have any
here to check. You may be able tell by looking closely. Bruce Roe
