Cowl that houses the rear seat speaker

I am in the process of restoring my rear seat speaker and when I removed it from the seat and the cowl that it is housed in, I found a fair bit of surface rust on the metal cowl itself; so much so that I can't quite tell if the black paint was originally a flat or more of a satin. It may even have been more glossy but I don't know if all the car's are even black like mine, but could someone tell me if the black paint is flat or satin or even more of a gloss black?

Thanks so much!

What are you calling the cowl? The entire structure surrounding the speaker on my car is chrome. No painted metal.

Are you talking about the perforated screen over the speaker? Satin.

It actually is the part that you can't even see from the front, and it is the part that the speaker is attached to and the chrome surround as well. I went with a black semi-gloss and it turned out very nice. I also found the spot on parchment paint (they call it Almond) at my local Home Depot and so the whole speaker array turned out very nice. Also repainted the metal seat backs for the Strato Bench seat and wow, what a difference.
