I did have to sort through and reuse, I think the uppers, because the new ones didn't fit properly. I'll check and let you know for sure later.

the factory bushings are around 1- 5/8"in diameter, the ones they are selling are only 1-1/2" (part# 70-3345-35). they told me theres no way they wont fit since their catalog states they will.

they also told me i should compare the dimensions i need with bushings they sell for other brands/models..maybe another one will meet my requirements.

they offered a refund though

It's in the catalog so it must be true! That's pretty dumb. I'd have expected them to ask for more details so they can check their product and make corrections if necessary.

I'm sure you two guys aren't the only customers who have returned them. I wonder if later models used smaller diameter bushings and Steele just assumed the same size was used in all years?

Yeah, it's the uppers....the square rear body to frame mounts are also a bit off sized but they can work.

I have a NOS rear body to frame mount and it's about 1/4 inch thicker than the Steele product but I simply made a shim with 1/4 black nylon stock and drilled the proper sized hole in order to get the correct thickness. This will probably end up more durable anyway as it is on the bottom where most of the distortion and damage occurs.

Love all the pictures! I'll keep following the progress and dreaming of when I can do this to my toro. It's looking really good!

I did use the bushing replacements for the rear springs, and pretty sure they were a tight fit and that I got them from Steele; the issue was getting them in, not that they were too small. I will have to go back and see what we used when we redid them a couple of years ago. I thougtht they were fine.
