rebuilding a 68 455

Postby Wiley.Coyote » Sat Oct 01, 2016 10:01 pm

Just purchased a 68,with buckets and console.
Motor isnt running,planning a rebuild.
Which parts are special to the toranado?
Any other tips for removing the engine?
Thanks.

The final drive will need to be supported (chained up here) when the engine is removed.
Underneath is a hinged flexplate cover held by 4 bolts, one is reached from the top on the
drivers side. Once it is off, the flexplate can be unbolted from the torque converter. Do
keep the converter in position (I use a bracket) in the trans. The engine must be brought
forward enough to clear the bell housing, then lifted out.

Some try to lift the engine, trans, and final drive out together. With all the risks, I only
do that at the junk yard. Bruce Roe

Thanks, any good shop manuals for this car?
Unfortunately, the engine was partially disassembled, and parts are in the trunk.
Also missing a few parts, like the rear vent panel..if thats the correct name.

Hi Wiley,

I don't remember if I recommended this guy to you in another thread or not but John Dorcey has 50 1966-1970 parts cars in storage from which he will sell parts. Perhaps he has a parts car for you if you need the whole thing or at least has the individual parts you need for your restoration.

I am extremely pleased with all of the things I've purchased from him.

He's in Las Vegas so his cars are nice and dry and rust free. He works evenings so call during the day.
