How to get doors to close easy on 66/67?

Postby deaddds » Mon Mar 22, 2010 9:15 pm

OK first time I put door seals on several years ago, it made the doors very tough to close. After car came back from body shop with roof seals in doors closed excellent. Now after putting new Softseals in, its a PITA to get closed again. I tried a heat gun to further soften but only marginal change. New rods were put in at assembly in case the old were sprung. Anybody else had this prob and how did you fix or who's seals did you use? Thanks

This is a common problem. From what I've seen the solution is heat and time. After a summer in the sun at car shows they will likely seat in a more closed form, making the door easier to close. The longer they sit compressed the better. I wouldnt waste time and risk deforming them with a heat gun. A heat gun heats the surface disproportionally to the whole mass and is risky.

I'll see how it does. The first time I did the car seals it sat with doors closed most of the time and I only used it in summer but after 5 years I figured it was the rods needing replaced as the doors never got better. Now I'm not so sure. What brand seals did you use?
