Thanks for the info. The muffler that I took of my car was shot - as was the whole system - but it was actually round. It seemed like there was a fair amount of room around the muffler when I removed it. I'm not concerned with originality as I am with it fitting well and sounding nice. I have decided to hold off on the exhaust until I pull the motor and figure out exactly what my build is going to cost.

Yes, mine is original and it's round, too. The factory service manual shows a diagram and it is round.

Save all those pipes, of course, to be used as templates for the local exhaust system craftsman.

I just went out and crawled under my car to verify that the muffler is round and not a fat oval. It's round. The photo of the muffler from Classic that you posted does look fatter and shorter than the one you pulled off your car. Maybe it's just the angle of the photo but it sure looks larger in diameter than mine and the one you removed from your car.

Years Owned: My first Toronado was a 1968 W-34 with the bucket seats and center console... (weeps gently) It was a New England rustbucket in 1982 after less than 14 years. So sad. But it is what infected me and before I knew it I had another '68, a '69, a '70 and eventually inherited a friend's '67 and another friends '73. After buying my brand new Grand Prix in 1988 I retired the last of my Toronados and pulled the 455 I had rebuilt along the way and put it into storage in a friend's barn where it is to this day.
In Mid September of 2010 I happened to see a repeat of the show where Jay Leno did his 66 Toronado and had an instant remission of the disease which resulted in my purchase of a 1969 in very good condition. I am now in the process of fully rehabilitating it and hope to have it on the road in the spring of 2011.

I purchased my exhaust from these guys:

http://waldronexhaust.com/

The only issue I had was that the bends are not optimized and I had to have a local shop adjust the exhaust. This can be avoided by having a shop install the exhaust in the first place. If someone can get their car over to Waldron's they will perfect the bends and we would have a source for a high quality exhaust in either aluminized or stainless.

I should point out that they stood behind their product and sent me an entire replacement piece when it was obvious the bend did not work. I highly recommend them on this basis alone, it is hard to find folks that will provide this level of service.

Need the dimensions of an original muffler for a '66. Length of muffler body, muffler diameter, inlet/outlet diameters.
