That's great, Harald. You've done a lot of good work. I'm sure you're enjoying driving your car now.
What timing chain and sprocket set did you buy? I noticed that it had multiple keyways, presumably for different performance applications.
My car still has the original Teflon coated sprockets so I'll have to change it out sooner rather than later.

Otto,
Those were nylong coated gears, not teflon. Huge difference in material.

Yes, I meant to say nylon. I guess I was just thinking about my non stick pan that I used to make a BLT.

Hello Harald .. I know it is now quite a long time ago, but could you precise what are you calling an « healthy » oil pressure on your newly rebuilt engine ? how many psi at which rpm and cold pr hot engine ?
Mine is just finished and installed back in the car and I would like to check oil pressure ... many thanks in advance ! Olivier

Olivier,
I´m not Harald, but I rebuild a 425 Toronado engine some times ago. With cold start the engine has 72 psi at idle. At 180 F° it was 43 psi at idle. At cruising 65 psi (1500-2500). Engine got new bearings at cam+crank and new rings...

Wow!
At operating temperature my engine is around 21 at idle. It still runs like a scalded dog, though.
Your number make me want to double check mine, now!

Thanks Roland ! May I ask you which type of oil and viscosity are you using ? And which oil pump have you put on your rebuilt engine ? I am quite impressed by your values ...

Oil Pressure

I have a theory, that as an engine wears, oil pressure esp at idle gradually drops
and that lowest pressure causes the whole wear process to start snowballing. I
use an Olds high volume pump (and high strength pump shaft) which manages to
keep pressure up even at idle, postponing that snowballing for a while.
I need to wear out another dozen engines to prove it. good luck, Bruce Roe

@ochafart
I use 15W40 Engine Oil and put in every rebuild engine a new high volume oil pump (with stronger shaft like Bruce)
