Decode 1966 Data plate?

Above is an image of the data plate on my 66 Toronado.

I believe it's a deluxe. The car is white with a black all vinyl interior.

My shop manual for 66 Olds does not seem to have the information in the front section of the book that pertains to the Toronado.

Thanks,

Brian

01C = assembly 3rd week of January, 1966
66 =1966 model
39687 = Oldsmobile (3) 9687 = Deluxe 2dr coupe
EUC = Euclid, OH Fisher Body Plant
16704 = body number
Trim 050-J =all vinyl black interior (J not decoded)
Paint XX = Porcelain White exterior

Other codes are probably tinted windows and custom seat belts. Post some pictures of the car and especially interior dash and seats to determine the other options. For seats without headrests, letter A after trim code, for seats with headrests, letter E. Don't know what J is for.

The J code may be a reclining bench seat on the right side. That was only optional on the Deluxe model. See if the passenger side of the bench seat reclines. Both naturally fold forward for entry of rear passengers.

Thanks. I have the master parts book and the factory shop manual. Either the info is not in either or I just didn't look hard enough.

Here are some pics.

Thanks VERY much for the info.

Apparently this car does not have power seats. The passenger seat clearly does not recline. All of them go forward for rear passenger entry.

This car may have the rear window defroster. Does it? It's a little concerning that the carpet looks rusty. Maybe the floors are rusty. If you have any more pictures of the outside of your car, that would be great.

The Deluxe is distinguished from teh Standard by having the longer door armrests with the rear door latch handle for rear seat passengers.

I sent you a PM.

It does have power seats. It also has the rear defogger.

The floor only has one rust spot there the gas pedal is held down to the floor.

I took the photos when I bought the car and it has not been cleaned so the rugs are just dirty.

The car is in storage until I can get to it when it gets warmer.]

I always wanted a 66 Toronado and this one only needs some minor TLC to be a nice driver.

Thanks,

Brian

Bryan, see if the passenger side seat reclines then. There is a handle on the side for that seat. It should recline back towards rear, and is power seats as well. That must be what the J code stands for.

It probably does. I can't get to the car for a while, that side is parked against a wall.

There were a lot of great colors offered on these cars. I have never deviated from the original color on any car but since it will be getting a full respray, I am thinking of a different factory color, maybe a silver or copper color.

White just does not show off the incredible styling of this car like a metallic color would.

I know it may effect resale value at some point in the distant future but it would look great, and against an all black interior the options are wide open.

The car is really straight and will require only minimal bodywork prior to painting, and I always strip my cars down completely and remove everything to prep for paint.

Any factory color for 66 certainly would be acceptable from a rigorous judging standpoint. There was a silver color than year, but not sure about copper. There was Trumpet Gold.

I know at the Cadillac Club Grand Nationals they do not match the cowl tag to check the exterior or interior codes as being a match to the car. Of course if you paint your car in a non authentic color or in a color not offered that model year it would stand out like a sore thumb.

I like several colors from the 66 chip chart shown.

Thanks,

Brian
