I agree that the nylon coating is probably laying in chunks in the pan and has partially blocked the pickup. I may try to use an inspection camera to verify this.
I don't see any way to drop the pan with the engine in the car so it looks like the engine needs to come out to remove the pan, clean everything properly, and change the timing gears and chain, and probably check the bearings too.
That's going to be a project for the winter or spring though. I have too many things going on to tie up the space. While it's a running car I will probably store it for a while and do this as soon as I can.
