For those curious my search to find a "rear end gear" or "final drive gear" change has come to an end I've found a source to 're gear the th425 for all toronados it comes with a new pumpkin box and gears and a new 10 bolt "main" gaskets and covers included and offer to dial in your speedometer in the price it's a bit expensive but it's all heavy duty stuff... Worth it if your into getting a new gear ratio! Thought I'd share if anyone else would like to change their ratio....
http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/606 ask for Jim Kanomata he is very informative and willing to help... If this is already posted and already mentioned I apologize. Good luck and safe driving!!!!

Those guys at Applied GMC are excellent. If you need help with the drivetrain, what better place to go than the guys who build them for the giant motor home applications?

Read the page I posted... The motor homes use the same engine and transmissions as the toronados and Eldorado so they sell the final drive kit which they already produce and sell it as a proformance upgrade for toro's and eldor's and since its almost impossible to find a better and more fun ratio why not? No diffrent then putting and RV cam into a 350 to produce more torque.

I know. I've dealt with them before. I have friend who owns a '67 Eldo as well as a GMC Motor Home.

Good lord - a 3.55, 3.70 or 4.10? Why? My '67 already feels like it needs a 4th and 5th gear to wind it down a bit, and it's not like these things sip fuel as it is (although admittedly, I'm not worried about that).

The other way to do it, is change the big chain from 1:1 to 65:56 with a
POWER DRIVE invented for GMCs by CASPRO. And of course a switch
pitch converter wil get you going faster without changing gearing (so
keep your economy). I have both in my trans. Bruce Roe

Manny will be glad to sell you a heavy duty TH425 trans (used in GMC
motorhomes) with SWitch Pitch & POWER DRIVE. Or you can find a 66/67
Toro with SWP, or take the parts out of a 67 Eldo (not BOP case). My 79
(downsized) has a 400 engine and the TH425 SWP, but with the POWER
DRIVE REVERSED for a 2.40 overall ratio for best fuel economy. What a
tire spinner it is. Pics on my PHOTOBUCKET, user bcroe Bruce Roe

Thanks for the information--I have a 1970 for which this will likely work. The 1970 does have a return line. What does the float and contact look like? The 1970 looks like a black doughnut with a small hole containing two flat spring contacts that slides along the pick-up tube. Also, if you know, how long was the internal pickup tube?
