How Do You Adjust the Transmission Kickdown on a 1966 Toro?

I cannot find the procedure or specs for this adjustment anywhere in the FSM.

My '56 Cadillac has a similar TV rod and the instructions are very specific. One or two threads either way changes the way the entire transmission shifts and how it downshifts at high speed.

What are the general specs for a '66 Toro? How much slack? Is there any Olds literature on the subject?

There is no TV rod on a THM 425. Kickdown is electric on the THM 425. You'd be adjusting a switch on the throttle linkage, back by the firewall. The same housing has the torque converter solenoid switch incorporated as well.

I took that switch assembly off of my Toro, replaced both switches with more-modern stuff. I put the kickdown switch onto the gas pedal bracket by buying a pedal, bracket, and self-adjusting switch from a '68--newer Toro.

The torque converter switch was replaced with a Bruce Roe electronics package that fits under the dash.

You could check it with a 12V test light. The wire to the top tab on the
trans should show 12V at idle, and near full throttle. The wire to the
bottom terminal should only show near full throttle. You can just turn
the ignition on, no need to start the engine.

Those things are not particularly reliable. Even if they work correctly,
the performance can't match Schurkeys' approach. Bruce Roe
