My wonderful 66 Toronado has an inoperative temp gauge. Replacing the sender provided no satisfaction, so I purchased a 2inch temp gauge from summit, with an electrical sender instead of the capillary tube.
It installed in the drivers side ashtray nicely, is hidden when the ashtray is closed, and delivers the peace of mind knowing my 425 is not too hot. A pair of 2inch gauges would likely fit nicely, but one for now. Pics later.

Now that I can see what the temp is, I think I will replace the thermostat when I change the coolant this fall. It rides between 200 and 230, and I think that is a little on the warm side. I've never seen it over 230.

Re: Temp gauge install
Thought of getting a laser thermometer? Just to verify it is actually 220?
I don’t think mine goes above 200

Re: Temp gauge install
If you are TRULY more than a few degrees above the thermostat rating at idle or cruise, there's a problem. Could be a cooling system problem, an engine tune problem, or dragging brakes or deflated tires.
15 degrees above the thermostat rating, and the thermostat is defective or it has LOST CONTROL of the engine temperature.

And I'm thinking this too.
