The best thing you can do with the original setup is make sure your Quadrajet is properly rebuilt to factory specs for your year and engine.

Daytona Parts Co did an excellent job on mine. When I first got the car it had a reman carb on it that had metering jets designed for the Buick 300 instead of the 425. After rebuild it functioned flawlessly.

I suppose this is extremely late, just doing some catch up.

Hope your EFI project is going OK. You may be aware Cadillac built
a port injected EFI system 75-79, installed on 500 and 425 big blocks,
and 350 Olds small blocks. Since 1995 I have had a 79 Eldorado with
the EFI 350 Olds standard. I swapped in an Olds 403 but kept the port
injection system, the 350 ECU can be retuned, or a 425 ECU used.
There are hundreds of these cars still in use, I have serviced the ECUs
for over 200 cars, from 22 countries this century. Electronics is my
thing, at bcroe@juno.com

The 70s Cad port injection system has some advantages. It can be bolted
onto any Cad big block or Olds small block of the era. Parts are on the
cheaper side, sometimes found in the junk yard. The Olds HEI has cam
position outputs, and can be dropped right into an Olds big block. Same
for the Cadillac block. This EFI is ready to run, once adjusted to any
change in engine size. Although the General never put EFI on a 403,
nobody at emissions testing noticed, it was far cleaner than my carb cars
with the same engine.

Problems, this is a pretty old system requiring 40psi with a pressure regulator.
There is no electronically tunable ignition timing, just a basic HEI. A custom
intake is needed to fit it to a big block Olds. No closed loop on fuel or idle
speed. Some have fitted a recent ECM to the old injection system. I tried
this but found most ECUs could not properly drive peak-and-hold injectors.

You might be aware there is a GMC (1973-78) motorhome group, these used
the Toronado drive train. They are dedicated to putting EFI on their engines,
which might 403, 455, or Cad 500 conversion. Check them out at

good luck,
Bruce Roe
