'87 Troféo instrument cluster partially dead

Postby Trofeo1987 » Sun Nov 10, 2024 9:10 am

Hi folks,

it's already the second time my digital instrument cluster stoped displaying the tachometer & information center section: A couple of months ago, several lines of the dot-matrix display died out, and another two weeks later, the whole section together with the RPM scale and the INFORMATION CENTER caption remained dark. In the car repair center, which always repairs my car, they only told me that I should disassemble the cluster, look for faulty solderings, and re-solder them. I did that, but a thorough inspection with magnifier & multimeter showed nothing broken.

Is it possible that one of the ICs on the PCB or the heating filaments in the display itself are dead? Of course, I could order another cluster, but freight rates have become astronomical.

I just saw this, I know it's an older post but I figured I would reply just same.

What you have here is an issue with the display and processor board. It can be repaired and restored, and I've done so many I've lost count. It's going to take a few hours and will need to remove all of the glass VFD modules to change out the dead chips under them.

I would be happy to do this one for you, I don't check this forum often since it's been overrun with spam, but your best bet would be to take a look at my site FixYourVIC.com, I specialize in the restoration of Toronado electronics. My contact info is at the bottom of the main page on that site.

Best regards,
