fuel pump, 1966

Postby bluecab » Fri Jan 10, 2014 6:24 pm

My engine rebuilder gave me the fuel pump that came with the car. It's frozen and I need a new one.
The old one has a odd looking diaphragm thing hanging off the side.
Whats it do? Is it necessary?

Thanks!

The thing hanging on the pump is the "pulse reducer" I think they were only used in 1966 and probably not necessary. Most of the 66's I have seen don't have them anymore.

Hi,
just spent a bunch of time on the Carter / Federal Mogul site trying to figure out which pump to buy:
looks like their m4516 has the fitting for the pulse reducer and the m4871 does not..
Have I got that right? Other than what I can see in the photos, the specs seem exactly the same.
Thanks!

Not sure about the Carter site, but get a pump that will let you use the metal fuel line from the carb to the pump. Might have to use the old brass tee and plug where the pulse reducer was. Important to have a metal line from the pump to the carb.
