Wiper Motor and Washer Pump for a 66

Postby MCKINLM » Wed Nov 30, 2011 10:45 am

Hi all,

The other day I found there was smoke coming off the wiper motor as I was testing it while reassembling things (just got the car back from being painted). NOT very comforting. So of course I had to mess with it....the result....I now have a non-operational wiper motor (I broke that resistor on the back of contact plate). Granted, better than having it start a fire mind you...but Ugh.

So I have decided to just replace it and the washer pump.

Te shop manual sounds the one for 66 Toro is a bit different in some way from the other round motors for the rest of the 66 Olds models (although the parts manual says 4916037 is for all 66 except F85). USA Parts also lists a rebuild for a 67 Toronado wiper motor, but not for a 66....double ugh. I have checked the usual suspects for the part listed in the parts manual and 4915858 which is the number from the one on the car....nothing found so far.

So my questions are:

1) does anyone know of a supplier for nice original looking wiper motor and washer pump?
2) is there any interchange with other GM's or other years of Toronados?
3) does anyone have working used motor/washer pump they would be willing to sell?
4) if nothing new is available, does anyone know of a good rebuild/remanufacturing company? I sent a note to Midwest Remanufactuing yesterday and a couple others but hearing someone's experience is always a huge plus.

Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

Mike

Quick update

I found 3 places that will rebuild the wiper motor. Midwest Remanufacturing was reasonable and seemed like they covered all the bases. Another was on eBay and their photos looked like they do a nice job. USA Parts Supplies gave me 2 answers. I sent a note and later decided to just call. On the phone they said no, they do not do anything with the wiper/washer unit for a 66 Toronado. Later I got a reply to my email and apparently they do REBUILD them...or have them rebuilt by someone anyway. They just do not have any rebuilt ones to swap with people. They were pricier than Midwest though.

BUT the good news is that I found a used one from out west which should be arriving in a few days!!

So now at least I have some options to fix the situation.....thank goodness!
