Are 1966 Toronados finally getting serious attention from collectors? Here's one for $55K and it doesn't even have ac.

Beautiful car. Supposedly spent over $100,000 on the restoration. The engine rebuild cost more than my entire car. Will someone pay that much for it?

I think that's crazy, though. I don't think it's worth that much. I can't believe someone spent $100,000 restoring it.

I saw one on ebay that was equally nice , in my opinion, sell for $35K, I think. It had ac, too I believe.

This one sold for $35K and is fully loaded, unlike this $55K one. That guy is dreaming. Hagarty places value of a #1 '66 Toro at around $40K


Did you notice that the $100,000 restoration car has the lands and grooves on the rubber foot pad on the driver side running the wrong way? Obviously the original mat is not reproduced but if you're going to try to get close, at least cut the rubber with the correct orientation!

Here's the $100,000 restoration with the incorrect rubber mat. I accept that you have to make do with what's available when certain parts are no longer made but he should have at least oriented the pattern in the same way as the original.

The photo above is the original rubber mat in my car.

OK, I was wondering about that. I thought that $1000 was a real bargain for a car that was mostly intact functional. Still, $1800 is a real bargain, too. Your car is in pretty nice shape, considering.

Those mats are hard to do anything with and they aren't reproduced. The 67 was yet again a little different from 66. I'm not sure what I'm going to do to get mine fixed up decently. They get hard and then for one thing, you can't get them off the floor without damaging them.

Right. I just think the person who restored the one for sale should have oriented the rubber so that the lands and grooves ran laterally as on the original rather than longitudinally as he did. It would have looked much closer to stock.

I'd like to find out where he got that rubber mat material, though.

As you can see in the photo, mine is so/so and has a small hole where the driver's heel rests so I'll be needing to do something in the future.

I don't really know without seeing the car, but spending huge money restoring these cars is what it takes. Don't make the argument until you've walked in those shoes. These cars are VERY expensive to restore.
