Interesting. That's also the brand and part number from Rock Auto. Are you saying it's not the cv half shaft?

I found diameter of the axle where the bearing sits on the CV half-shaft (GM8111) to be smaller than my original part by several thousandths. Some other seal surfaces and threads were not the same, but not as significant problem as the wheel bearing. I sent it back and am trying to use my original part. Cardone would not rebuild my CV shaft. Constant Velocity in Florida, does not have a source for the inner CV boot on the early 1966 models. I have not found an inner CV boot that will work. Any parts source suggestion would be appreciated.

I don't think the Westar motor mounts (EM 2263 and EM2262) listed are correct for the Toronado's.

I have found that the parts listed as the anti-sway bar bushings (Delco 45G0503) are not correct

hI mARTY,

I would contact http://www.appliedgmc.com This guy knows his stuff and rebuilds these parts for use in GMC motor homes. He also sells parts. I believe he has the correct boots, too. Ask for Jim, the owner. It's sometimes easier to talk to him than to find exactly what you need on the website.

I used a Speedi boot with a seam on the side that screws together since I did not have to remove the shaft. It works very well and seals tightly.

Otto,
Thanks for the lead. I called Jim this morning and ordered the inner CV boot. If it fits, I order a second one. The part # was GM1-1.003.12. Jim was very responsive, knowledgable, and helpful.

On a side note, I wish we had more activity on this forum. I find it interesting that people in Australia and Germany are interested in our Toronados.

Yes, when I first got on this forum in 2014 after I bought my Toro there was a lot more activity. It just seems to have died in the last year or so. Every now and then there's a spurt of activity.

What about rebuilding your CV axle? Are you going to send it to Jim or do it yourself? How about the wheel bearing issue?

Otto,
FYI, I called Jim back and ordered the second inner CV boot.

First, I purchased a rebuilt CV shaft from NAPA. I found that the shaft diameter (where the bearing sits) was 0.005" less than my old shaft and I returned it to NAPA. I then gave NAPA my old shaft and asked them to send it to Cardone to be rebuilt. After about six weeks, NAPA called to say Cardone and a local CV rebuilder would not or could not rebuild it. I then contacted Constant Velocity who said they could rebuild it, but did not have a suitable, replacement inner CV boot. Constant Velocity said that the inner CV boot and inner joint on the early "66 models were different than later ones.

After separating the shaft from the two joints, I cleaned up the joints for inspection. A friend, who has experience in all things cars(and owns a Cord), looked at the joints and said that he did not think they were worn sufficiently to warrant a rebuild. With that, I researched NAPA's website and ordered inner and outer CV boots that I thought would fit. The outer CV boot from NAPA is too small on the big end, but I think I can stretch it to make it work. The outer boot (on the big end) was 3/4 " too small. That takes us up to my post on this forum looking for the correct size boot.

Since I am using my original shaft the shaft size (where the bearing sits) is no longer an issue.
