interior Courtesy Lamp Covers- REAR- 1966

Postby Borderless » Mon Aug 28, 2023 5:47 pm

Hello,

Does anyone have a lead on any reasonably good condition covers for my rear passenger interior lamps for my 1966 model? Mine are either cracked, or broken. I'm happy to accept yellowed, aged, just something better than the current condition of my own.

It's my understanding that Fusick Auto used to carry them, but doesn't anymore... I've also checked in with John Dorsey, in Vegas but he doesn't have a solution either- so thought I'd reach out.

Failing this, I might need to consider having them fabricated- but this will surely be expensive. Hopefully, my fellow Toronado members will have ideas, solutions.

There are kits and plastics that can be purchased to make your own. If you have reasonable DIY skills, you should be able to make a mold of the best one, clean up the flaws and cast new ones. I've done this with other plastic items for various vehicles.

Start by going to Eastwood and see what they have available in the form of plastic part making kits.

This is a possibility out of left field; Look at some of the repro parts for Cadillacs and Buicks. GM often used the same lenses in various makes and models.

OPGI would be a good place to look for Cadillac interior lenses.

Many thanks Otto!

I really am not handy enough to make them myself- and envy you for having delved into that yourself.

However you've got my attention in re cross-sourcing from other GM models! I'll try to flex my research skills and see if I can come across something that will work. Wow it will really spruce the thing up once I get those covers replaced...

Thanks again,

Have you ever visited the Oldsmobile Toronado Facebook group?

There are a lot of people on it all the time and someone might have some or even have made some for sale.

Scott, see if you can find someone with a 3D printer. They aren't that expensive anymore and lots of hobbyists have them. It would be very simple to use your best lens as a template to produce new lenses.

I cross-posted there, yes.

Now need to check FB more often than I usually do (like, once a month or so) lol.
