One of our favorite watches this year, and a definite steal at Watches & Wonders 2025, is the new Patek Philippe Calatrava 8 Days (Ref. 5328G-001). This watch not only enriches the Calatrava collection, but also adds an everyday complication of pure elegance. This new Calatrava features an instantaneous day display in an aperture, a pointer-type date display at 6 o'clock, and an eight-day power reserve display at 12 o'clock.

This watch is housed in a perfectly proportioned 18K white gold case measuring 41 mm in diameter and 10.52 mm thick, and is equipped with a new movement. The case is decorated with Patek Philippe's signature guilloché pattern that runs all the way around the case.

The striking textured blue dial with a black gradient edge is covered in white gold numerals and hour/minute hands with white luminous coating.

A small running seconds hand is located at 6 o'clock on the date and day subdials, which we think makes the design a bit busy and confusing if you take a quick glance at the date indication - although the seconds hand is shorter than the date indicator hand.

The Calatrava Power Reserve 8 Days (Ref. 5328G-001) comes with two interchangeable straps: one in blue calfskin with a fabric pattern and cream stitching, and the other in grained taupe calfskin. Both straps feature a new patented three-piece folding clasp, which improves security and wearing comfort while allowing for quick strap changes without tools.

Movement
Flipping the watch over, you’ll see the new in-house 8-day power reserve manual-winding calibre 31-505 8J PS IRM CI J, which consists of 256 parts and beats at 28,800 vph (4 Hz). This new movement perfectly blends classic design with cutting-edge innovation and incorporates several key technological advances, including the Pulsomax escapement with Silinvar escape wheel and pallet fork, originally developed by Patek Philippe’s Advanced Technology Research and Development program.

The movement’s twin series-connected barrels ensure eight days (192 hours) of precise operation and display a ninth “backup” date in red on the domed indicator at 12 o’clock, reminding the wearer when it’s time to wind the watch. The day and date display jumps instantly at midnight.

The Calatrava 8-Day Power Reserve watch looks majestic yet refined on the wrist. With a diameter of 41 mm, it is moderately sized and features the iconic hobnail pattern on the side of the case, achieving the perfect balance between momentum and comfort.
