Hello to all on the TOA forum from down under. My name is Ian "Hank" Williams, I am hoping to purchase a clean, original 1966 Toronado. I saw my first 1966 Toronado back in 1966 when General Motors Holden imported a beautiful silver/blue example for what you in the USA would call an agricultural fair, I'm now 62 years of age and am hoping to find a a clean example to bring down under. I have posted a request on the technical section of the TOA forum, relating to asbestos materials that may or may not be used in 1966 Toronados. I live in hope that my Toronado dream will come true.
Regards to you all,
Ian "Hank" Williams.

I'm not aware of any asbestos being used on '66 Toros. Brake linings have long since gone to other materials and I doubt any car you find will have its factory brake shoes.

What year? Probably not made of asbestos by the 90s.

New owner of a fine gold 1966. Vehicle number is 396876M520401. It is in good condition although to insure the future I replaced the FWD axles and brakes. Exterior will get a little freshening this week and then we will take pictures. Interior is like new. Seems to be in excellent running condition. Lot's of zip. Fun.

Looking forward to the Forums. Registration was slowed not knowing the GM code name for the developmental Toronado. Must be like knowing the club handshake. Oh well...

Dap8,
I'm interested in the parts source and part number you found for the front axles.

My Houston repairer got them through local parts supply who got them elsewhere. Took about a week in route. (That cost $90.) Each one cost me $190 and it took four hours (not me) to install both. Other work was done to adjust the front (drum) brakes. One side (left) still runs hotter. Maybe that is normal. I'd like to know.

No, not normal.

The shit parts you buy today are Chinese junk. I bought AC Delco brake drums last year and they were the cheapest castings ever. Anyway, I had to have my my friend with a brake shop re-machine the "step" on the wall of one of the drums. The edge of the shoes were rubbing on it.

Your mechanic probably got the front axles from rock Auto.
