New guy looking at 1966

Postby hambone » Thu Jun 01, 2017 4:58 pm

Hello everyone, I live in Arkansas, I have been trying to buy this car for 10 yrs., now the opportunity has arrived, it is a 2 owner car that is rust free. It was a frequent driver until 2005, that is when he pulled it into the shed, says he has started it a few times since, hope to start the resto in a couple weeks, at the price he offered, I can't refuse. :D I just love the look of the car, let me know what I need to look for. Thanks, Hambone

First off, don't be tempted to put a battery in it and turn the key. If that car hasn't been driven for 10 years or started for who knows how long, you have a lot of preparation to do to avoid engine damage before attempting to start it.

If you already know this, good. If not, we'll give you a list.

Also, sitting on that ground for 10 years may have caused rust to start on the undercarriage, etc.

Thanks for the reply Otto, my brother in law has a shop here, he maintained the car from 1995 until 2005, when it was parked, it's not sitting on the ground, there is surface rust on the frame, but nothing bad. I will post more pics when I get it to the shop.

That's good to hear. Looks pretty straight in the pics.

Best color, too.
