Are there any Toro owners that also own or have owned the GMC Motorhome?

If so could you offer up any feedback on them.

I don't own one, but i'm trying to talk my relatives into picking one up As I understand, they are supposed to be one of the easiest motorhomes to restore, due to the way they are constructed... Plus they look neat.

They do look pretty cool Twilight.

I have been doing some on line research lately and there is a huge industry supplying parts and accessories still. Apparently of the close to 13,000 made from 73-78 there is still over 8,000 accounted for.

Like anything you have to be mindful of what you are looking for. They can be an endless money pit.

One interesting thing I came across was there are now kits available to convert the front end suspension using GMC 1 ton truck components. Everything from bearings, brakes, axels, ball joints etc.

Where are you located? Great to here you know all about the GMC…cause I dove right in and bought one! Cannot believe! Especially cause my 68 Toro is only half done or so!

Well here is a picture of the 78 Royale or as some of my Pulp Fiction inspired neighbours like to call it “The Royale with cheese”

One owner 65,000 miles with a brand new completely rebuilt 455 replacing the original 403. The motor has less than 500 miles on it.

The original owner was getting up in age and no longer felt comfortable driving it. He had pretty much rebuilt the whole thing mechanically in the last 5 years. New brakes, rad, tranny, final drive, front bearings….the whole shebang.

The motor is a Dick Paterson rebuild. Dick Paterson lives up here on Ontario and rebuilds 455s, Q-jets and also specializes in electronic ignition for these GMC coaches. His motors, ignition systems and carbs are highly coveted by the GMC faithful and are sent all over North America.

I sent him my carb for my 68 Toro.

Other the then a few changes here and there this 78 is pretty much original. It’s never been painted and is in overall excellent shape.

We just had it out for a fall weekend camping trip and everything worked as it should.
