1989 Toronado Oil Change Index reset ?

Postby roland » Thu Jul 12, 2012 12:12 pm

Hello,

Some days ago I purchased my second Toronado. Its a 1989 (non Trofeo) Toronado with digital dashboard and should be my daily driver. The oil change index was at 0 and I changed the oil with oilfilter at once. But I cannot reset the index from 0 to 100. So the warning "Change Oil" comes every time again. I have no owner operation book so please can anyone tell me the way to do it.
A cutlass/delta/regency owner operation book (same year) tell me to press the buttons OIL and RESET for 5 seconds - but my Toronado has no OIL button...???

:D I just found the answer in the net:

1989-92 Oldsmobile Toronado, Trofeo w/CRT display
- After changing oil, press the INFO (A) button to the right of the screen. Next, touch the area on the screen titled 'oil life'.
- Date of the last oil change and a bar graph will appear on the screen. - Touch the area on the screen titled 'reset' (B).
- You will be asked if you have changed the oil.
- Touch the area on the screen titled “YES” and the system will reset the graph to 100% and update the oil change information to the current time and mileage.

1989-1990 Oldsmobile Toronado, Trofeo WITHOUT CRT Display
- When 'change oil' appears above speedometer or when you want to reset 'oil life index' to 100%, press ENG DATA (A) button until an oil message appears on message center (if it does not do so already).
- Then press the ENG DATA and RESET/ENTER (1990) or ENG DATA and GAGE (1989) buttons at the same time. 'oil life index' will reset to 100% and 'change oil' will be erased.

1991 Oldsmobile Toronado, Trofeo w/o CRT Display
- To reset 'oil life index', press the 2 OPTIONS button: three times if vehicle is equipped with a phone and compass; two times if vehicle is equipped with a phone or compass; once if equipped with neither.
- While 'oil life index' is displayed, press and hold RESET/ENTER key at bottom right of the 15 button switch for 5 seconds.

Damnit, between this, and the beautiful 80's toronado I saw the other day... I'm really getting nostalgic for the '89 Trofeo I sold to pay for my '66.... Ah well, such is life... It was just too expensive to keep it running.
