I have a line on a few Toros wasting away in a couple of dry (Wyoming dry) graveyards within a couple hours' drive from here - question is, I don't need an entire car to scavange, just a few parts here and there - so I'm wondering about forming some sort of parts co-op if the only way to get what I want is to buy the whole car? Anyone ever tried this? I'm not exactly sure how to set it up - any thoughts?
I'm quickly finding out how hard it is to find certain parts, so it might not be a bad idea to pool our resources to get what we need, even if we take what we want and scrap the rest.
I've sent for more info on these cars, but since I have a '69, that's what I will be interested in. The other years include a '68, '70, '72, '77, '78 and an '84.
Just thinkin' out loud,

I like the idea, the two questions that come to mind are how to administrate the breaking up and that many people may tend to be looking for the same parts.

- Years Owned: My first Toronado was a 1968 W-34 with the bucket seats and center console... (weeps gently) It was a New England rustbucket in 1982 after less than 14 years. So sad. But it is what infected me and before I knew it I had another '68, a '69, a '70 and eventually inherited a friend's '67 and another friends '73. After buying my brand new Grand Prix in 1988 I retired the last of my Toronados and pulled the 455 I had rebuilt along the way and put it into storage in a friend's barn where it is to this day.
In Mid September of 2010 I happened to see a repeat of the show where Jay Leno did his 66 Toronado and had an instant remission of the disease which resulted in my purchase of a 1969 in very good condition. I am now in the process of fully rehabilitating it and hope to have it on the road in the spring of 2011. - Location: Gig Harbor, WA
Re: Co-op for Toro parts?
Interesting thought. I know I will take pretty much any parts I can get my hands on but I do have some specific needs such as the front right fender, bumper, valence &plastic bits, vacuum headlight motor and brackets, headlight cover plates and a whole bunch of other stuff.
I esp. want a full AC system including the hoses and doghouse, preferably not comfortron.
I might be willing to join in if the pricing turns out to work. I might even be able to drive out and pick up stuff at some point to avoid shipping; I have always wanted to go to The Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone.
Any idea what kind of money we are talking here? Know if there are any 76-78 Eldos in there?

I have my Fuel Injected Toronado. Life is good!

None of the years listed really fit my '66, otherwise I'd be signing up for a few minor parts. Good luck in your endeavor.

Re: Co-op for Toro parts?
All good questions. Guess my thought would be to work out a deal where the scrapyard keeps the car - then go strip what we all need and they can crush the rest. I do have a co-worker who is a dealer/junk man locally, so I have him on the trail of one too, if that works, then storage isn't a problem - anyone who's in can come when they want.
Most of what I need is interior and small stuff like exterior plastic parts, but I think it could work if someone needs body panels and drivetrain parts.
I've got feelers out, and emailed the yard with all the Toros. No response from them yet. I'll keep you posted.

No news yet. Apparently when your Web site offers inquiries by email, you don't need to respond to them. I'm going to call them this coming week, but here's their site:

They say they have a few Toros of different years - good news is Rapid is about as dry as here, so rust shouldn't be much of an issue.
