Wondering what they are used for?

My guess is that I have either a 1969 or 1970 Toronado front frame with full suspension and 455 power-plant in my Ultravan.
My question is out of curiosity.

On the frame in between the lower control arm (on the passenger side) and the oil filter is a long rectangle (part of the frame) with two holes in it. And straight across from it on the other side behind the lower control arm is another one that matches the first one.

What are they used for? And does anyone have any pictures of them with whatever is mounted to them?

Thank you,
Tony

The Toronado had torsion bars so the holes you're describing sound like that's what they're for. I'll see if I can get a photo of mine on a ramp.

You may wish to contact this company, www.appliedgmc.com . They specialize in parts, and upgrades for the drive trains of GMC motorhomes.

Does this look like what you're talking about?

Sorry but that is not what I am talking about.

When looking down along side of my Toronado 455 to the frame. I see the oil filter and then there is a boss or rectangle area across from the filter and it is part of the frame itself. It looks like something goes there. Because there are two holes there. It almost looks like where one would have side engine mounts bolted to the frame. Anyways, I was wondering what that part on the frame is used for? What would go there - if anything?

EDIT - I was able to find a picture to help show where and what I am talking about.

Thanks.

All I see in that area is the mount for the control arm.

Here's the area of the frame next to the oil filter. The only two holes on a rectangular, box shaped thing I see are on the control arm mount.

Does anything in these pictures look like what you're talking about?

I just saw your photo. I think we're now talking about the same part. It's the upper portion of the control arm mount. Nothing on the Toro is attached there.

Otto, You might be right... It is raining and I am not able to crawl under the coach to see. I only saw it from above. Grin
Looking down from the top it is angled - kind of like where you put side motor mounts.

Hopefully the rain will stop soon and I can go see under the coach. But I am sure you are right..
