Toronado Wheels ? And....

Hello all,

I was looking at some sort of "do it yourself " website at ideas for rocket stoves and saw this one.

Looks a lot like Toronado wheels to me. Wonder how many are going to that final use?

I haven't been here for quite a while or done any work on my '66, February brought REAL winter here in Indiana. A relative of my son in law said our weather here in S Indiana has been worse than hers in N Wisconsin lately.

I have taken a metaphorical step backwards in my project. My power steering is now making a frothy liquid and not functioning well. It was working fine when I got the car and I'm wondering if I ruined some seals as I replaced the fluid with just whatever I had handy laying around.

Wheeler Dealer had a show where a similar aged car ( maybe dodge?) was doing the same thing and it was bad seals that channeled the fluid in the right directions.
I could try that route
I could try and replace the unit from my parts car.
Not sure which route to try but I have to wait until this 9 inches of snow and 1/3 inch of ice under that that fell 2 days ago melts first.

Yup, those sure do look like Toronado wheels. What a sad state of things.

South Indiana, eh? Back in the '60 and early '70s I lived in Charlestown and Marysville. Where are you, if you don't mind saying? I've been living around Rock Island, Tennessee since 1976.

Considering that those would have likely been scrapped otherwise, I think it's a cool use for them.

Charlestown huh? My kids are all in New Albany area now, I think I used to go eat at some BBQ place in Charlestown about 20 years ago....

I was born across the river in a louisville, so yes I know a little about that area.

Just wanted to ease your worried minds...

The Frankilin stove in the first post is not made from Toronado wheels.

The Toro wheels came in two styles. One has 7 large holes and the other has 10 smaller (but still large) holes.

hey otto,

why are there two different styles? IIRC its about disc and drum break right?

on my 1970 toronado with front disc and rear drum brakes i have set of those 10-hole-wheels on it...but its always a PITA to mount the 1970 full-cover hubcaps and theres a really big gap between the hubcap and the tire. maybe thats because the 10-hole-wheels were made for center-caps only?

Yes. In '67 the depth was changed to accommodate disc brakes, however the '66 takes a wider trim ring.

The '66 is deeper where the chrome meets the steel. The '67 is shallower. (see red arrows on pics) The '66 wheel is the second photo below.
The 7 holer above is from the 70s

'67 wheels will retrofit to '66 but not vice versa. Of course you also have to match trim rings to the proper year rim

The valve stem location is also different on the 7 holers and 10 holers which may cause problems mounting caps and rings.

all right..thank you

looks like i have to get a set of correct wheels to make those hubcaps fit properly. at least those wheels also came with the eldorados right?
