Yup. There is a paint decoding key somewhere on the web...

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?year=1969&model=Oldsmobile&rows=50

I can't decide if it is Aztec Gold or Autumn Gold.

According to this key from our site my car is 77 which the paint key says is Autumn Gold. So there you have it.

There is a number to the left of the letters PNT on the vin plate which has this code. What does yours show?

Here's the data tag. I didn't see any of the codes listed on the data plate. Perhaps there is another plate somewhere?

Strange. I wonder how that came to be? Your plate clearly shows 03 for the PNT code so what is the color for that code?

Aha! It appears to be a special order color:

X-03 - Nugget Gold Metallic** (23211)

Wow a special order color! I wonder how rare this color is?

What is most strange is that it looks in the photos to be the same color I have. I wonder if it has been repainted or if the color just does not translate well in digital pics?

I don't think its a repaint. The paint is consistent over the body and door jambs. The paint under some of the interior panels matches as well. Just from looking at in person, I would say it's slightly darker than yours.

That may well be the case although mine has been repainted at least once or more.
