I took some pictures throughout the day as I was pulling the engine out of the car.

The transmission case cracked on the right side where the guide pin was. Don't worry, this was NOT the OM transmission. It was an OJ model from 1970 that was swapped in some time ago. Because the engine wouldn't turn, I had to leave the torque converter attached. So much for finding out if this has a forged crank.

Thanks, I was able to repair my fuel tank, and actually, except for the dents, it was in great shape. I posted pictures on the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/PerfectShapeCustoms

Great news!!! Looks like this engine has the forged crank. The engine is seized, so it will be some time before I will be able to get it out. :(

Okay ..... xg413...... should this turn out to be a forged crank it will blow a hole in what was previously believed and purported but more on that later .. now I would like to what the F code is i can kind of see it but not sure what it is.
I can though clearly see the 68 above the F Code so what is the Julian date on the deck next to the distributor hole, it could be 1, 2 or 3 digits which is the casting date. This will provide us with a rough lead time from when the block was cast until it as mated with the car as in the built date
This has been an elusive point to put a handle I have had my speculations but no solid evidence. An example of this was my 69 built 9D the casting date was 277 which puts it 30 days has Sept April, June ah never mind ............... it put is very late in Sept of yup 69? Impossible 68 but sense I have never pulled the motor I don't know and very difficult to see, but none the less it almost year. This though should be a lot closer and would guess 6 month or less

I appreciate any help thanks.

PS i can read the built date on the body plate all that well.
Bill
